Bread and Butter Pickles

This is Aunt Martha's recipe for some easy pickles!!

Bread and Butter Pickles

3 quarts cucumbers, sliced
1/2 cup salt
3 cups vinegar
3 cups sugar
3 onions, sliced
1/4 cup mustard seed
1/2 teaspoon celery salt

Place cucumbers in large bowl, cover with water and salt.  Soak for 3 hours, then drain and rinse well.
Heat to boiling, the vinegar, sugar, onions, mustard seed, and celery seed.
Add cucumbers and reheat to simmer.  Carefully ladle hot mixture into hot pint jars, leaving 1/2 inch headspace. Remove air bubbles, wipe rims and adjust lids. Process for 15 minutes in a boiling-water canner also known as a waterbath.
Relish  can be made nearly the same only you dice or shred your onions and cucumbers and leave out the mustard seed and celery seed.
